A Legacy of Vision & Excellence
Mani School, one of the esteemed institutions in Coimbatore, has a rich and inspiring history that reflects the visionary leadership of its founders and the enduring commitment to educational excellence. The story of Mani School is intertwined with the legacy of the late Sri. G. Kuppuswamy Naidu, a pioneer in industry, who was deeply invested in the well-being of his community in Pappanaickenpalayam. His ambition to provide medical facilities and educational opportunities for the people of his hometown laid the foundation for what would become a lasting educational legacy
The Visionary Founders
Sri. G. Kuppuswamy Naidu, though he did not live to see his dreams materialize, planted the seeds of a noble idea in the minds of his brother, G. Venkataswamy Naidu, and his sons, G. K. Devarajulu, K. Sundaram, and the late G. K. Govindaswamy, affectionately known as Mani. These family members took up the mantle and established a trust in Kuppuswamy Naidu's name, which eventually led to the founding of both a hospital and a school. The hospital was inaugurated in 1952, becoming a beacon of hope and healthcare in Coimbatore.
Establishment of the School
The trust's attention soon turned to education. In 1951, during the State Educational Conference, K. Sundaram passionately advocated for the establishment of an English-medium school in Coimbatore. His vision was to create an institution that would offer quality education to a diverse and cosmopolitan community. The perseverance of the Naidu family, particularly G. K. Devarajulu, led to the correspondence with the Department of Education to establish a high school. Despite initial challenges, including delays due to the lack of suitable temporary buildings, the foundation for the school's construction was laid in 1953.
By February 1954, the trust received permission to start a high school with both Tamil and English medium sections. The school's construction progressed swiftly under the supervision of the late S. R. Narasimhan, a retired Executive Engineer. The simplicity and functionality of the buildings reflected the school's mission to provide an effective learning environment. The school officially opened its doors on May 31, 1954, in a grand ceremony attended by prominent figures, including Sri K. Kamaraj, Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, and Dr. R. M. Alagappa Chettiar. The school was named in honor of G.K. Govindaswamy Naidu known as Mani, whose life, though tragically short, was marked by generosity, a love for sports, and an unwavering commitment to the happiness of those around him.
